As a bit in the Emmys this year, Sofia Vergara was put on a rotating pedestal as the CEO of the Television Academy Bruce Rosenblum gave his yearly speech on the current era of television. Ironically, as Rosenblum talked about diversity in American television, Vergara seemed a on display just for her body, shaking her behind at the audience.
While several unhappy viewers tweeted about the inherent sexism of the bit. Vergara shot back saying people needed to 'lighten up a bit'.
Entertainment Weekly quoted Vergara as saying, "I think its absolutely the opposite. It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself. I think it’s ridiculous that somebody started this—I know who she was—who has no sense of humor [and should] lighten up a little bit."
Here is what people said on Twitter had to say
Sophia Vergara is the highest paid actress on TV and they just made a joke of her. This show is a fucking disgrace.

Sophia Vergara was literally just used as a prop, because women are props. Cool #Emmys

Thanks Skyler White for winning an Emmy and saving feminism from Sofia Vergara's butt or something

The audience just clapped for Sofia Vergara's butt while she rotated on a disc. That Beyonce feminist moment on the VMAs was pretty cool.

I wonder how long it’ll take the Emmy’s to backtrack on their dumb idea to objectify Sofia Vergara. #Super #Sexist #Emmys2014

They literally have Sofia Vergara on a rotating pedestal to look at as the CEO of the Emmy Academy talks about quality television. Yeah.

Sophía Vergara posing as a statue isn't a joke when "trophy" is one of few roles given to Latin women in Hollywood. #Emmys

"This segment is boring, what should we do?" "Let's just objectify some poor woman for no reason, that usually works" "K cool" #Emmys
