Elizabeth Hurley has revealed that she took inspiration from Princess Diana and the Disney character Cruella de Vil for her portrayal of the fictional Queen Helena in E!'s first scripted series The Royals.

The 49-year-old actress said that she thought to herself when she got the part, what would it be like if Princess Diana became the Queen of England, but then of course, what people never got to see with Princess Diana was what went on behind the closed doors, E! Online reported.

The Bedazzled star added that the creator Mark Schwahn gave them a lot of inspiration, some of it they picked from Cruella de Vil, the Disney character, and the rest she added in. Schwahn, the brilliant mind behind One Tree Hill, revealed that The Royals is a family drama and is about a family. It just happens to be a royal family, adding that it's a fictional family that just happens to be in a real world and it's a royal family, not the real royal family.
