Divyaalakshmi in 'Maharana Pratap'

Divyaalakshmi has been roped in to play Sajja Bai, the second wife of King Uday Singh in the upcoming historical Maharana Pratap. Excited about having bagged the role, Divyaalakshmi says, “I have always wanted to do a historical and I am glad I got this opportunity. Most importantly, I have a lovely character to play. Sajaa Bai was a very lively, bubbly woman who had some cute moments. Whenever my character comes on screen, there will be some comedy, the kind never seen in a historical before.”

For the actress, who has serials like Jyoti, FIR and Shapath to her credit, this is a major break. So far, the actress is best remembered for her role as a cop Joki in the first FIR where-in she she used to start a conversation with ‘nahi’. “That was my taikya kalam. I also played a character with grey shades in Jyoti, did a film Break Ke Baad in which I essayed Imran Khan’s sister.

After that I took a sabbatical of two years and returned with Hum Ne Li Hai Shapath,” says the actress. In Shapath she plays a con woman-turned-cop Bulbul and the love interest of Aamir Dalvi’s character. “She is a Delhi girl, full of life just like Parineeti Chopra’s character in Ishaqzaade,” smiles Divyaalakshmi. 

However, currently she is not shooting for the show. “As of now I am busy with Maharana Pratap, and in any case I am not there throughout in Shapath,” she says.
