Actor Josh Duhamel says initially he did not think that it was a good idea for Michael Bay to adapt the popular animated series "Transformers" into a film but he was convinced once he saw the script.

The 44-year-old actor, who reprises his role as Colonel William Lennox in the upcoming film "Transformers: The Last Knight", recalled his audition for the first film in the franchise.

"I'll never forget it. It all started a few months earlier when I was meeting with Michael's producing partners on another project. Michael pokes his head in to say hi and introduce himself, and then invites me to check out what he was working on. It was 'Transformers'. And I just remember thinking, 'That doesn't seem like a very good idea'," says Duhamel.

The "Las Vegas" star, however, was convinced when he saw what Bay had done with the script.

"That is, until I went over to look at what he was working on. Two months later, I get a call saying Michael wanted to see me for a part in it."

Unlike other films, the real challenge starring in Bay's movie is the ability of an actor to adjust to the action sequences, involving extensive use of cables.

"In most things, you have lines from the script, you rehearse those lines, and then you play them. In a Michael Bay movie, it's different, especially with this character and the situations he's in. He's always in the middle of some battle or some big action sequence where things get quite fluid," Duhamel says.

The fifth installment also stars Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Isabela Moner, with Shia LaBeaouf in a cameo.

It releases on June 30.
