Priyanka Chopra made her presence felt as the protagonist Alex Parrish in Quantico. But the A-lister is not the first name in the nexus between India and international television. While there have been famous names like Sendhil Ramamurthy as well as Naveen Andrews (Lost), Kunal Nayyar (Big Bang Theory), Dev Patel (Newsroom) and many more in the past, After Hrs takes a look at artistes who are currently working in front of and behind the camera in TV or web series.

VANDIT BHATT: QUANTICO

Joining PC in the latest season of the show is actor Vandit Bhatt. He plays Jagdeep Patel, a new member of the elite Black Ops team in the series. This is not the young actor’s first outing on international television. Over the last 15 years, he has done shows like The Michael J Fox (2013), 42 Seconds of Happiness (2016) and more.

PURAB KOHLI: SENSE8

The Rock On!! actor didn’t have a long role in the first season of the show, but the second season saw him in more scenes. He plays Ranjan Rasal in the show — a too-good-to-be-true guy who Kala (Tina Desai) is set to tie the knot with. However, she falls in love with her fellow ‘sensate’ Wolfgang (Max Riemelt), leading to a love triangle.

TINA DESAI: SENSE8

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) actress is one of the leads in the popular American sci-fi web series. She plays Kala Dandekar, an Indian pharmacist engaged to a man she doesn’t love in Sense8. Tina is one of the eight protagonists or ‘sensates’ (individuals across the world who share a mental connection and are being hunted down by a mysterious organisation). She is the only Indian lead in the series. Initially cancelled after two seasons, its finale is all set to release on June 8 this year as a special two-hour series.

ARCHIE PANJABI: SHETLAND

You may remember her as Kalinda Sharma in The Good Wife, Prof Reed Smith in The Fall and Nas Kamal in Blindspot. Currently, she can be seen as Detective Asha Israni in the procedural show Shetland. She also has Next Of Kin coming up this year, in which, she will feature in six episodes.

MAATIBAANI: SONG IN LEGION

Nirali Kartik and Kartik Shah from Mumbai are popular as a world-music band, who fuse Hindustani classical, folk, jazz, rock and other genres. The duo has a song Kari Kari Re in Noah Hawley’s series Legion, which is based on Marvel Comics’ character David Haller. Aubrey Plaza, Dan Stevens and Rachel Keller dance to the track.

HARSHIT DESAI: ART DIRECTOR NARCOS TITLE SEQUENCE

Art director Harshit Desai from Mumbai is now based in Los Angeles. His claim to fame is the title sequence of the crime drama Narcos. If the bolero Tuyo sung by Brazilian singer-songwriter Rodrigo Amarante is unforgettable, the opening frames that go with it make it even more memorable. Harshit was an integral part of the team that created it. A part of the design included recreating footage and graphics from the late 1970s Columbia of the drug lord Pablo Escobar since most of the material was available in very low resolution. He also made all the cocaine bricks himself — from baking soda!

INDIRA VARMA: CARNIVAL ROW

The Brit actress of Indian origin played Prince Oberyn Martell’s lover, Ellaria Sand, in seasons five to seven of Game of Thrones. While her other notable works have been Human Target, Luther and Paranoid, she will be the series regular in Carnival Row that also stars Orlando Bloom.
