In what might be a change in functioning, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has gone ahead and set a deadline for his period drama, Padmavati, it is being reported. From what we hear, he wants the Deepika Padukone-starrer to be ready before May, so he can showcase it at Festival De Cannes, which completes 70 years next year.

Casting is now complete, according to some reports, with a source confirming, "Bhansali has been meeting the actors to discuss their characters in detail." While Deepika has been signed to play the title role, Ranveer Singh will be seen as the film's villain  Alauddin Khilji, while Shahid Kapoor is in talks to Deepika’s on- screen husband, king Raja Rawal Ratan Singh.

In 2003, Bhansali attended the Cannes festival for Devdas, along with his lead pair, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. A source told a leading tabloid, “This project is close to Bhansali’s heart and so, he wants to have a grand launch. He is trying to finish shooting and post production by May.” Bhansali remained unavailable for comment.
