Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have been finalised as the lead roles for Karan Johar's next film Shuddhi. Initially the film was offered to Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. However both the celebrities opted out for the film. Karan Johar said that, "I cannot let a vision like Shuddhi stagnate any further".
Deepika Padukone signed the film as Kareena Kapoor walked out. After Deepika signed the film, Ranveer stepped in the shoes of Hritikh Roshan for the lead role. The couple has been popular for their chemistry after being cast together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela. Deepika's wishlist of actors she wanted to act with includes Hrithik Roshan. However, working with her boyfriend Ranveer Singh on the sets. The duo will be sharing screen space in Homi Adajania’s Finding Fanny Fernandes.
Both the stars look very occupied with their schedules now. Deepika is busy with 'Happy New Year' by Farah Khan, 'Piku' by Shoojit Sircar's and Imtiaz Ali's next project opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Ranveer is occupied too with Bhansali's next for 'Bajirao Mastani'. Sources have said that Karan Johar doesn't look worried with the packed schedule of the stars and shooting for 'Shuddhi' is only supposed to begin around the second quarter of 2015.
'Shuddhi' is inspired by Amish Tripathi's hotselling trilogy 'Immortals of Meluha' and is being directed by Karan Malhotra.
