In the late 90s and early 2000s, Ram Gopal Varma changed the way people looked at gritty, intense gangster dramas in Bollywood. With films like Company, Satya, Sarkar being lauded by the critics and audiences alike, there was a time when the genre had become one to look out for!

But in the last few years, all films in this space have either bombed or failed to surprise the audiences. Whether it's a D-Day or a Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobaara, the same hacknayed plotlines with bad execution have proved detrimental to the whole genre. But come 2017, things might change for the better.

Arjun Rampal has just launched the theatrical trailer of his next film - Daddy - that is a biopic on the life of gangster Arun Gawli. Showing the unknown, unspoken side of the gangster , the only one who didn't run, Daddy trailer packs the right punch. From the dialogues to the camera work, the whole 2 minute something promo keeps you on the edge.

Shot in real locations, the film chronicles the life of Arun aka Arjun and how despite being a goon, he became Daddy to the common man. The film might have been delayed due to several reasons but the trailer that was launched on Wednesday shows a different side to Arjun altogether. While his last few films have hardly done justice to his acting calibre, Daddy might just be the game-changer he needed. And the industry did, too!
