Blackbuck case: Actor Salman Khan appears before court

Salman Khan who has been running in and out of court with respect to the hearings of his 1998 blackbuck poaching case made an appearance in Jodhpur court on Friday for the same. The Bollywood actor was convicted and sentenced to one year prison term for poaching two Chinkaras at Bhawad and five year imprisonment for killing a blackbuck at Ghoda Farm (Mathania) in September 1998. 

The identification parade is going to take place which is why the actor appeared before court in Jodhpur on Friday. The incident had taken place during the shooting of Sooraj Barjatya's family entertainer Hum Saath Saath Hai in Rajasthan. Blackbuck is an endangered animal and is considered with great reverence in Hindu tradition. so the killing of the blackbuck lead to a lot of protests against the actor.

Salman had even approached the High Court in 2007 requesting for a stay on his conviction by a trial court as he had to file a fresh application for a British visa. As of now, as many as ten prosecution witnesses have been produced for cross examination in the court in relation to the blackbuck case.
