It's no mystery that all films today are subjected to rampant piracy that puts a brake on a film's box office performance. But with Udta Punjab, the film was leaked online even two days prior to its theatrical release worldwide. Now, a Puducherry cable channel even aired the leaked version of the film on Thursday.
Following the leak, Anurag Kashyap made a statement on Facebook, requesting audiences to watch the downloaded version only on Saturday. But it seems his plea fell into deaf ears as a Puducherry based local cable TV channel played the censored film on Thursday.
Shakthi TV has reportedly aired the entire film on their channel and this isn't the first time they have done the same. Actor Suriya tweeted about it.

While there is no clue about the people behind the leak, Udta Punjab has now released all over the nation on Friday and is evoking a good response from the audience. Surprisingly, the niche film has reached out to more audiences, thanks to the controversy surrounding it.
