Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that he had almost refused to star in the multiple-award winning hit series 'Sherlock Holmes' because he thought it would end up looking "cheap and cheesy".

The 37-year-old star said that he believed the iconic detective was one of the most dramatized characters of all time, and when he heard about the new drama, he thought that it was an idea to re-enfranchise something to make money, the New York Post reported.

The British actor said that when he heard writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss were involved, he realised that it wouldn't be cheap and cheesy as he had thought.

Cumberbatch, who has earned a lot of fans thanks to the series, added that he feel in love with Moffat and Gatiss' script.
