A Kailash Kher interview, where he stood up for the dignity and respect of his fellow musicians and the right to occupy pride of place at concerts held in India showcasing international musicians, found a kindred soul in singer Armaan Malik, who retweeted a story that described

Let's rewind a bit to a couple of days ago. When Armaan Malik quoted a MissMalini report when he posted this: Agree with @Kailashkher sir! Actors are actors and singers are singers. Leave the stage and mic to us, that's our playground not yours." A few minutes later, Sonakshi replied, "A secure artist would always encourage another artist to grow their skills and follow their dreams. Art in any form should not be suppressed." Armaan went on, “Agree with you, Sonakshi.. but I voiced what I felt about how singers are shunned in our country and given lesser importance than actors!”

It was when Armaan's brother, composer Amaal Mallik joined the conversation, that things got heated up. This was when Sonakshi reminded Armaan, "...this is definitely not the same tune you were singing when you wanted me to sing for you." Armaan corrected her, "You are mistaking me for @AmaalMallik he is the composer."  At this, Sonakshi replied, "Of course, I know Amaal is the composer but I clearly remember you both coming up to me after an event a while back asking to do a song together."

Amaal then gave his take on the matter by tweeting: "I second @Kailashkher. A music event should have only musicians performing & we should put out our best artists on such a big platform."

Finally, Sonakshi tweeted, “Firstly, I am not performing at the Bieber concert. It was speculated because I was approached and (it was) carried forward by publications and portals even after I stated in various interviews that it’s not happening. Secondly, Im an actor who loves music, who loves to perform and who loves to sing. And if anyone has a problem with that, in the wise words of Baba Bieber himself... they can go ‘love’ themselves. Over and out.”

After the whole tweet-storm died down, we reached out to Amaal, who told us, "I feel the whole thing is quite kiddish, my brother Armaan never tagged her and she took it personally and stated things like we went up to her at some event for a collab which is not true at all. It doesn't concern me what Armaan said and what she told him, but when I was dragged into it for no reason, I found it funny..."

Would he work with Sonakshi after this controversy? He told us, "I have worked with two actors and we have delivered two successful songs. I have been quite open to the idea of working with any actor who wishes to sing for their films but only if their voice suits the song in hand. The idea of a collaboration was the brainchild of the makers of Noor, and Sonakshi was quite keen on doing a track for the film.

But I didn't have a song for her in it."
