Arjun Kapoor is over the moon. He was recently gifted a jersey by his favourite football club Chelsea’s captain, John Terry. Not just that, he met the team’s members and came away with inspiring experiences.

Arjun confirms, “I was invited by Chelsea FC to watch the game. I also ended up doing interviews there for the Chelsea fan channel, the team’s own channel and their magazine. They made sure that I was the guest of the team and club and we had a wonderful time watching the game. It was actually my third Chelsea game in a span of six months — I saw the first one in December when I was in London for Anil chachu’s birthday, the second time with my Mubarakan producer Murad Khetani and his son and the third time, the club invited me. The production house gave me time to watch the game while shooting was on.”

But the actor adds that it was worth it. “After the game (which we won), I went on to the pitch, met, interacted and spent time talking to every member of the team and even took photos with them. It was the biggest fanboy moment of my life when I asked John Terry to take a picture with me and he took out a jersey from his kit and gave it to me.

He’s not playing because of his injury. I told him, ‘get well soon because I would love to see you back in the game’ and he said ‘I don’t mind not playing if the team goes on winning.’ For me that’s such a selfless attitude, which I loved and superb mentality to have.”

Who are his favs in the club? “My favourite, because of the way the whole game has gone this season, has to be Eden Michael Hazard, a Belgian professional footballer, who plays for Chelsea and the Belgium national team. He’s one of the best players in the world right now. And then there’s curly-haired defender David Luiz, a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for Chelsea and the Brazil national team. Apart from being a great player, he has an amazing personality off the field as well, in terms of his antics and affability. He’s injured his knee and is still playing so I asked him ‘Doesn’t it hurt when you play?’ He said ‘It’s all in the mind. If your mind is strong you can conquer anything in this world.’ There were some amazing experiences in that span of one hour. I got to meet their six-foot-plus tall goalkeepers — Asmir Begovic and Thibaut Courtois also. For the first time in my life I felt short and intimidated by someone. It was a surreal experience for me.”

Arjun adds that he’s a huge Chelsea fan. “I have made it a point to follow the Chelsea matches no matter where I am and what I am doing. My life is governed by the match timings and if I am in the middle of a shoot, there has to be something constantly available for me to follow the match. I use my van to watch the games, otherwise I don’t put on the TV. It irritates me if I am in a place where I don’t know what is happening. For me, it’s very important to be connected to Chelsea matches.”
