It was only a few days ago that the Mumbai Sessions Court acquitted music composer and playback singer Ankit Tiwari on all charges of rape, but the case won't be closed for very long. The victim plans to reopen the case by appealing to a higher court.

Ankit was acquitted a few days ago as the “complainant turned hostile and the prosecution failed to gather enough evidence against him", as per a report in Times of India. However, the victim then produced a copy of the letter Ankit and his brother Ankur Tiwari signed, saying that they would not say anything negative about the complainant in public and would not malign her name.

However, it was Ankit's interview with a leading daily where he called the accusations false and talked about the "trauma" he went through that made the complainant reconsider closing the case.

Talking about reopening the case, the victim told TOI, "I decided to withdraw the case after fighting for almost a year, as Ankit and his family pleaded saying that it was affecting his career. My family and husband (she got married in 2015) were pressured by them and their lawyer. I agreed and in return, asked them to apologise to my parents, who were insulted by them. I also got it in writing that they would never give a statement — direct or indirect — against me or on the case once they were acquitted, failing which I would be free to initiate any legal action I deem fit. I will now file a re-petition before the High Court in a week to reopen the case. I have enough proof to establish my case.”

The victim allegedly supported Ankit as a struggling artist and then was raped by him in 2013, following which he continued their relationship and kept raping her with false promises of marriage. When that didn't pan out and the girl received no support from Ankit or his family, she filed a rape case with the Versova police in 2014 and alleged that Ankit's brother, Ankur, sent her death threats.
