The Kandivli police on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old maid and her accomplice for allegedly stealing jewellery worth Rs6 lakh from a railway employee’s house in Kandivli (West). The theft had taken place on May 4.

The accused was nabbed from actor Yukta Mookhey’s home in Lokhandwala where she had started working 10 days ago.

The accused, Sunita Wareek, worked at Nagma Aman’s house in the railway quarters in Kandivli (West) from April 26 to May 4.

Assistant inspector R Kshirsagar said, “Aman is an assistant accountant in the railways and had employed Wareek as a full-time maid. On May 4, when she left for work, the accused ransacked the whole place, broke open the lockers and fled with all the jewellery.”

Wareek allegedly carried out the theft along with her boyfriend Vinod Karande, 33, who is the second accused in the case. A case was registered at the Kandivli police station. When the police tried to trace her mobile phone location, she was found to be in Gorakhpur. Later, her mobile phone was traced to a location in Lokhandwala.

“After hiding for a few days in Gorakhpur, she managed to get employment in model Yukta Mookhey’s house,” Kshirsagar said.

“We caught her and her accomplice before they could carry out more thefts. Two similar cases have already been registered against the accused in the past.”
