Following a silent protest against the prevalent religious intolerance in the country, many directors had returned their National Awards as a sign of their disapproval of the policies and happenings. Soon, the entire issue caught fire and it became a huge national debate. A political one. Then, at a media interaction, actor Shah Rukh Khan was quizzed about the same and his comments resulted in huge uproar across the political belts. With ministers condemning his comments, calling him names, advising him to leave India, the issue slowly got heated up.

While everyone thought that the issue was over, Aamir Khan is the latest to join the bandwagon. In an interaction during a media summit, Aamir spoke at length about the issue, claiming that his wife Kiran Rao even contemplated leaving the country, fearing the well-being of their child in such an environment. Aamir's bold statements has now sparked another controversy. Albeit this time on higher levels than what happened with SRK.

With his effigies and posters being burnt all over the nation, people slamming him on the social network and even refusing to use any brand he's associated with, the issue seems to have gone out of hand this time. Not just that, expressing their opinions on Aamir's remark, many Bollywood celebrities have taken to Twitter and other mediums to voice out their feelings on the entire fiasco.

And it seems the issue has completely divided the film fraternity into two halves. While one side has taken Aamir's back on the entire controversy, the other crowd of people has lambasted Aamir for his comments. Amidst all the hullabaloo that is now grabbing headlines, here's how Bollywood celebrities reacted to the entire issue. Who said what? Let's find out!

IN AAMIR'S SUPPORT!

AR Rahman
Nothing should be violent. We're all ultra-civilized people and we should show the world that we are the best civilisation. Everything should be done classily. I feel what people are doing is very poetic. We should set an example for the world because we come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi; he has shown how a revolution can have an impact without any violence

Jackie Shroff
If anyone wants to protest about something it’s their wish, but people should be able to express bindass. Ask them (referring to Aamir) why they said something like that before jumping to conclusions. Respect the person’s view as that is also being tolerant.

Kabir Khan
Aamir didn't meant to say that nation is intolerant, but the atmosphere is intolerant. When Aamir used the word intolerance, he didn't target it to our country, he was simply referring to the ongoing scenario around us. He tried to convey that the result of this was such, that people including his wife Kiran's mindset has led to the impromptu questioning of running away. He did not literally mean that he's just packing his bags and leaving the country. Why would Aamir leave the country? He's the pride of the nation and he has made a significant contribution in making the country proud for us. Even we think of such questions but it doesn't imply that we'll go away and resort to some different place. Where would we go? It is our homeland after all. I can't say what Anupam Ji thinks but for me, I totally support what Aamir and Shah Rukh had said on this.

He (Aamir) should apologise to the nation for what he said. In fact, if somebody was an ordinary man he would have been arrested for saying these words. You are trying to incite people against each other.

For his body of work and the actor Aamir Khan has been, I have a lot of respect for him, his work as an actor. My personal belief is that India is the most tolerant country in the world and has been for thousands of years.
