The last time Amitabh Bachchan had as many as three releases to his name, it was 2008. The films? Bhoothnath, Sarkar Raj and God Tussi Great Ho. 2016 is expected to be just as remarkable a year for the actor, what with as many as three films of his arriving at regular intervals.

“Wazir has already released in January this year. Now Sujoy Ghosh’s Te3n has been slated for arrival in June while Shoojit Sircar’s Pink releases in September. Each of these films has him in a central role. This is simply fantastic as no other actor from his generation is enjoying such stardom at the moment,” says an observer.

In fact if one counts his cameo in Ki & Ka, then he has as many as four big-screen arrivals this year. “While he has been quite visible on television, other entertainment forums and social mediums, in terms of movies he has been doing a couple of films at maximum every year,” a source adds,

“Last year, it was Piku (which fetched him a National Award for the Best Actor) and Shamitabh. A year before that it was only Bhoothnath Returns. He is very selective about his films.”

However, the last time Big B made a big splash was way back in the 2004-2007 time period when he had an astonishing 30 films to his name, none of which was a special appearance or a guest role. That made it an average of seven to eight films per year, a record that is unlikely to be broken.

“It is clear Bachchan has now upped the ante further when it comes to making films,” the observer adds, “He is already in talks with Ram Gopal Varma for Sarkar 3, which is as huge as it gets. Considering the kind of speed that Ramu works at, it would be interesting to see if they collaborate soon enough and see the film’s release this year itself.”

Now that would make it four in a year for Amitabh Bachchan. As for Anees Bazmee’s Aankhen 2, it is set for a 2017 arrival.
