By now, you're no doubt aware that Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies VFX team gifted him a 3-D model of himself. A video capturing his reactions was put out. But that wasn't the initial reaction.
"Normally, Shah Rukh is not the guy who keeps quiet. He keeps talking all the time. But he was so shocked on seeing the model that for the first five minutes, there was complete silence," noted Keitan Yadav, COO, Red Chillies.VFX. During that time, "SRK was looking at it from all angles - top to bottom - checking out every detail."
"We put in a good six months of our efforts to get to this level. We did our research, put him in his signature pose and tested with a small signature statue first. Then we tested with a size bigger and then about a size bigger than that of about a feet and a half. After that, when we started getting the confidence, we started our work on the details because we had developed the skill sets already and were in complete interaction with the Autodesk team. Nobody had done this before", said the COO.
Having everything set with the model ready in September itself, the team was busy planning the grand surprise. "On his birthday this year, SRK was shooting for Fan. So he could not get time. The model was lying in the office for two months and in between, President Obama also came up with a bust size 3D printed model. We were feeling a little down that although we achieved it much before in September, we could not present it to him first", Keitan continued as he revealed how the team executed everything. "Finally, one day we just called him to office in the name of an important meeting and then we took him to his room which was covered with the red curtains. He finally saw the model and was startled", Keitan continued.
"From his face to his famous nose and his signature pose to his shoes, Shah Rukh was checking out everything in detail and then eventually bombarded us with a flurry of questions and showered us with compliments", laughed Keitan. And his biggest compliment? 'Yaar, dimple bhi exact copy kiya hai" as he smiled from ear to ear... Now that's a job well done!
