Bringing relief to thousands of students who have opted for bilingual papers for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, the CBSE would give out common question papers for students opting in any language. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted on Wednesday, that ‘There will be same questionpaper for all languages — English, Hindi, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil & Telugu’.

In 2017, the West Bengal government had alleged that the NEET paper for aspirants opting for the National Eligibility cum Entrance test(NEET) in Bengali was different from that of their English counterparts following which several aspirants who opted for the Marathi versions had also come up with similar complaints. Students opting for bilingual papers had pointed out the starking differences between the English version of the paper the bi-lingual version with respect to the difficulty level of questions asked.

The NEET 2018 exam would be held across on May 6, 2018. Following the supreme court order in response to a plea by the Students Islamic organisation, Urdu will be introduced for the first time as a language option. Javadekar also tweeted that ‘the exam will be based on common syllabus of NCERT/CBSE & State Board of XIth & XIIth class’ which several parents said was causing panic. “So far, the NEET has only focussed on CBSE syllabus unlike all the other state CETs. The annoucement has created panic as students have to now prepare both sets of topics in the next few months” said Jasmine Gogri, a parent from Mumbai.
