One of the most appealing aspects of any university is its campus placements. But what happens if your college does not provide you with campus placements? Don’t worry it’s not as bad. You can get a job even without college placements. All it requires is a little more effort. And by little more, I mean possibly a lot. But it all depends on your outlook and your ability to endeavour. When you are fresh out of college, you have it constantly at the back of your mind that you need to get the job of your dreams or at least conquer the first rung of the ladder. All you need is guidance. So here are few steps you need to be mindful of when you’re looking for a job and wish to land it too:

Maintain your resume

The purpose of a resume or CV is to provide a summary of your skills, abilities and accomplishments. Since a resume is a primary tool in your job search, it needs to be carefully written and updated over time.

Look out and apply for internships

There are internship programs in many companies that you can apply for. Apart from gaining experience, you also get the opportunity to land a permanent job, if you work hard enough. Whenever you are trying to get a job, you are asked about your work experience, so be prepared and utilize your vacations.

Appear for competitive exams

Once you graduate you will find yourself with a lot of options in terms of competitive exams. These exams are hard to crack but once you do, your job is assured. Make sure to be informed about the dates of competitive exams, when are their forms available, what all documents are required, etc. Appear for language tests like TOEFL, IELTS, etc. These are sure to give you that extra edge when looking for a job.

Build your network

It’s all about building contacts. This helps you know of job openings and sometimes even give you those extra brownie points when you know someone at the interview. Use your college alumni groups or even the faculties to make professional contacts.

Be updated on social media

Social media is a powerful job-hunting tool, and there are unlimited opportunities for you to socialize through it. Sign up on various websites that have job registration. Follow recruiting managers on Twitter and create a strong profile. This increases your chances of getting a job. Keep track of companies and influencers by following them on various social platforms.
