Delhi's Directorate of Education on Wednesday issued guidelines instructing schools not to conduct offline examinations for students of classes 3 to 8 for the Academic Session 2020-2021. The guidelines also said the assessment would be on the basis of worksheets and assignments.

The guidelines of DoE have been issued to the government-run and aided schools for assessment for the 2020-21 academic session, during which schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and all teaching and learning activities were conducted online.

"Since no classroom teaching-learning has taken place at the primary and middle level, formal mode of pen and paper assessment is replaced by assessment based on subject wise assignment/projects for class 3 to class 8 for all government and government-aided schools," read the order.

Guidelines issued by Delhi government

1. All students from Nursery to Class 2 will be automatically promoted to the next class in the academic session 2021-22.

"All current students of Nursery to Std II shall be promoted to the next class in academic session 2021-22. The purpose of this assessment is to understand the impact of an alternate learning approach that needed to be adopted under prevailing circumstances," said the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi.

2. Grades or marks will be given on the basis of winter-break assignments and responses for students from KG to class 2.

"Students of classes KG to class 2 will be given grades/marks on the basis of Winter Break Assignments and Responses to online/offline worksheets shared with the students during COVID-19 pandemic via digital modes/WhatsApp/in person by the parents/guardians," it said.

3. For Classes 3 to 5, 30 marks will be for assessment based on worksheets, 30 for the assignments given in winter breaks and 40 for the assignments and projects provided from March 1 to 15.

4. For Classes 6 to 8, 20 marks will be for assessment based on worksheets, 30 for the assignments given in winter breaks and 50 for the assignments and projects provided from March 1 to 15.

5. "In case a student does not have access to a digital device or internet, the assignments and projects will be given in hard copies by calling his parents to school while following the COVID-19 guidelines," the DoE said in its order.

The board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 will be conducted from May 4. The students of Classes 9 and 11 will have offline exams in accordance with the schedule decided by the schools.

Schools were closed in March last year, ahead of a nationwide lockdown, to curb the spread of the coronavirus. While several states reopened schools from October onwards, the Delhi government has allowed reopening of Classes 9 to 12 from January 18.
