CBSE UGC NET 2018: Upper age limit for JRF aspirants increased by 2 years, exam pattern changed

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today said it will conduct UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) on July 8 this year. Online registration of candidates will begin on March 6, 2018 and will continue till April 5, 2018. The CBSE, on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), conducts NET to select candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for the eligibility of the post of Assistant Professor.

Detailed notification for the exam can be accessed at cbsenet.nic.in from February 1. 

This year, the CBSE has made several changes including the age limit and the number of papers. 

Exam Pattern:

The CBSE has brought down the number of papers to two from earlier three. 

The Paper-I will consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. 

The duration of Paper-I will be one hour. 

The Paper-II will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. It will consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks. 

The duration of Paper-II will be 2 hours. 

Exam timings: 

Paper-I: From 09:30 am to 10:30 am (July 8)

Paper-II: From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm (July 8)

Age Limit: 

The CBSE has also relaxed age norms for the candidates appearing for the JRF. The upper age limit for appearing in JRF has been raised by two years - from the existing upper age limit of 28 years to 30 years.

Online application process begins: March 6, 2018

Last date of online application: April 5, 2018

Last date of paying application fee: April 6, 2018

Date of exam: July 8, 2018
