CBSE Class XII results: 12,000 plus scored more than 95 %

A total of 11,06,772 students from 11,510 schools appeared in the exams held across the country.

More than 12,000 students scored over 95 per cent in the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII exam Saturday’s results revealed, increasing the number by around 2,500 than last year. A total of 11,06,772 students from 11,510 schools appeared in the exams held across the country.

All-India topper, Noida-resident Meghna Srivastava, registered a record score of  99.8 per cent – the highest in five years. The second position was bagged by a girl from Ghaziabad, Anoushka Chand, who scored 99.6 percent in Humanities. The third position was shared by seven students from across the nation at a score of 99.4 per cent.

Sama Shabir Shah, daughter of jailed separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, topped Jammu and Kashmir with 97.8 per cent.

A total of 72,599 students scored above 90 per cent, as opposed to last year’s tally of nearly 63,000.  Overall pass percentage stood at 83.01 per cent, nearly 1 percentage point more than last year’s 82.02 per cent. Out of 10 regions, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest pass percentage of 97.32 percentage, followed by Chennai and Delhi. 

Maintaining the trend, girls outshine boys by a margin of 9.32 pass percentage points – the pass percentage for girls was 88.31 per cent; boys' was 78.99 per cent. 

In terms of institution-wise pass percentage, central government-run Kendriya Vidyalayas Sangathan outperformed others at 97.78 per cent, followed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (97.07%), Central Tibetan Schools Administration (94.82%), government-aided schools (84.48%), government schools (84.39%) and independent schools (82.5%).

Union Education Minister Prakash Javadekar congratulated government schools on their remarkable performance. “I am very happy for Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas. Even government and government-aided schools have scored more than the average result. It is really a landmark moment. The quality of government schools is improving and that’s a good news for everyone,” he said.

Among the differently-abled candidates, Vijay Ganesh from Palakkad in Kerala emerged as the all-India topper by securing 98.4 per cent. “The pass percentage of differently-abled students increased by 1.03 per cent from last year’s 86.69 per cent,” CBSE officials said.

Delhi region’s overall pass percentage witnessed an increase from 88.37 per cent in 2017 to 89 per cent this year. “Delhi government schools’ result is 90.64 per cent, 2.37 per cent higher than last year’s 88.27 per cent,” tweeted Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia.
