A 22-year-old man was allegedly shot dead at his residence in Outer Delhi's Vijay Vihar area late on Thursday night. The prime suspect in the case is his neighbour and friend Monu, who was present in the room with him when the shot was fired. While the family members alleged that it was a murder, police are investigating if it was a case of a 'selfie' gone wrong.
According to police, the incident took place around 10:30 pm in Gopal Colony area of Vijay Vihar in Rohini. The victim, Vijay, had come to the national Capital in search of a job and was residing at his uncle's house. On Thursday night, he was at his house and his friend Monu, who lived next door, came to meet him. The duo was inside a room when the neighbours heard a gunshot. They rushed to the house and saw Vijay lying in a pool of blood. Monu had fled the crime scene by then. Vijay was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Vijay's relatives alleged that he was murdered by his friend Monu as he was the only one present with him when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, police officers stated that they saw selfies and pictures of him posing with the gun on his mobile phone. They said that it could be a case of misfire or accidental firing also.
Teams have been formed to nab Monu. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem. To avoid any untoward incident, police will be deployed in the area, police said. Further investigations are underway.
