The Delhi government went on a high alert mode with Yamuna reaching the danger level mark on Tuesday. The warning level mark of the Yamuna is 204 metres and the danger level mark is 204.83 metres.

Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash called an emergency meeting on Tuesday afternoon to decide the steps to deal with exigencies. "The water level of river Yamuna at Delhi Railway Bridge at 11 am was 205.12 meters," a Flood and Control Department official said. "The water is showing a rising trend and is expected to go up as Delhi is witnessing rains and more water is being released every hour from the barrage," he added.

According to the sources, each district will set up a number of tents so that they are ready for people to move in by Wednesday morning. The departments will order food from Wednesday evening onwards as per assessment by district magistrate.

"All the heads are requested to depute their representations for 24x7 in the Central Control room. The officials must be posted in three shifts. The Central Control Room will operate 24x7," said a senior Delhi government official.

Earlier, the water levels crossed the danger marks on August 15. In July, the water level of the Yamuna river had crossed the danger mark, prompting authorities to evacuate people living in the low-lying areas.
"The chief secretary has directed officials to repeat the same exercise and necessary precautionary which they had taken during the period of 28 to 31 July," the official said.

Earlier, amid the crisis, union minister Harsh Vardhan hit out at Kejriwal, alleging that there was no advance planning to rehabilitate people affected by rising water level in the river and that they were at the "mercy of an insensitive" dispensation.

He also attacked the Aam Aadmi Party for failing to keep its election promise to install CCTV cameras in the city, a day after Kejriwal tore apart a report of a panel set up by lieutenant governor (LG) Anil Baijal on installation and monitoring of surveillance cameras.

"People along the #Yamuna in Delhi are at the mercy of an insensitive government. As the river is rising above danger mark due to incessant rains, no advance planning in place, not enough shelter for people caught up in flood waters. @BJP4Delhi, @BJP4India," said Vardhan in a tweet earlier.
