Woman dies as car runs over in Central Delhi's DBG road area, doctor held

The accused was identified as Ambuj Garg, who worked as a doctor and resided at the St. Stephens Hospital.

A doctor from Ganga Ram Hospital was arrested for running over his car on a woman in Central Delhi's DBG road area on Tuesday night. The accused was identified as Ambuj Garg, who worked as a doctor and resided at the St. Stephens Hospital.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8:30 pm on Tuesday when three women identified as Shanno Devi, Kripali Devi and Geeta were returning home after work.

The women were crossing the road and the doctor was going towards the hospital in North Delhi when the incident took place. When the trio reached near Rani Jhansi Road near Filmistan, the car hit them. Shanno Devi was killed in the accident, while two others were also injured and sustained minor injuries.

One of the women told the police that the driver initially left the scene. The vehicle was seized and the accused was arrested few metres away from the spot.

A case under Sections 297 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (Causing death by negligence) has been registered in DBG Road police station.
