Rain and waterlogged roads brought trouble to commuters on the third day on Friday, bringing traffic to a halt. While the monsoon is expected to hit the capital from Saturday, what can already be seen is civic agencies have failed at their job of fixing the flash points prone to waterlogging.

Over 200 complaints of waterlogging were received by the Capital's various agencies including the Delhi government's public works department (PWD) and the municipal corporations.

Meanwhile, massive traffic jams were witnessed at various crucial stretches carrying commuters from one part of Delhi-NCR to another including parts of the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Besides, hour-long jams were witnessed at major intersections such as Ashram Chowk, Britannia Chowk, Moti Bagh Chowk and Kashmere Gate.

"On normal days only Ashram Chowk remains jammed but today due to heavy rain, the route made vehicles crawl. It took me 30 minutes to reach Lajpat Nagar from Bhogal," said Jatin Sharma, a commuter.

The other affected areas include Aurobindo Marg, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Aurobindo Marg, and Nehru Place, Vikas Marg, Lakshmi Nagar, Dwarka underpass, Nirankari Road, Tilak Bridge, Kahsmere Gate, Punjabi Bagh flyover and Nehru Place flyover.

Despite, the Lieutenant Governor's instructions to clear silt from the city's drains, the efforts by the civic authorities have not brought results. As a result, the blocked drains choked the city's roads.

Earlier this week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that the city needed a separate body for the cleaning of drains, which becomes a major issue every monsoon. Also, the PWD, which had identified around 30 waterlogging-prone stretches, had claimed to have installed 1,000 pumps to drain out the water.
