Vocational training launched for Tihar inmates

The project has been launched in collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The Tihar Jail authorities, on Tuesday, announced launch of training sessions for its young inmates in vocational courses such as bee keeping, detergent and soap making, and handmade paper Conversion.

The project has been launched in collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). "Today, we have inaugurated a vocation training module at Central Jail no 5, which houses young inmates in the age group of 18 to 21 years,"DG (Prisons) Sudhir Yadav said.

"There is a lot of potential and abundant energy among inmates. We are confident that after training, they would not only get suitably employed themselves but could also be providing employment to other inmates,"he added.

"The initiative has been taken with a view to stimulate young inmates with innovative ideas of vocational skills, to make them economically independent once they are released from prison," Yadav said.
