On April 17, the police officials were informed about the kidnapping of a child from the hospital. On reaching the hospital, 38-year-old Sumit informed the police that he was standing in a queue at the hospital while his wife was sitting near the staircase with their baby girl. The mother of the girl wanted to use the restroom and the accused women offered to keep the baby with them until she returned.

When the woman came out of the washroom neither the women nor the baby could be seen. Several teams were formed and during the investigation, all the CCTV footages of the hospital were checked. "In of the footages, two women moving about in a suspicious manner was spotted rushing towards the exit. They were also seen calling out to an auto driver. The auto drivers who operate in the area were scanned and questioned. The auto drivers told the police that the women had left the hospital in the auto driven by one Azad.

They went to the hospital where they found the woman with her baby girl. Poonam and Ruchi approached the woman and started playing with the child. The mother who was exhausted waiting at the hospital since morning for her child's check-up trusted these strangers and handed over the infant to them to freshen up and get water. As soon as she left, the two women fled with the child and went home," said Pankaj Kumar Singh, DCP, East.
