Two men drown in pool which did not have valid government license in North Delhi

The Delhi Police has also written to the Delhi Government's Labour department to inspect the pool site.

Two men died after they drowned in a swimming pool near a school in North Delhi's Burari area on Sunday night. Investigating officials revealed that the pool was illegal and on its final stage of completion and hence a case has been registered against the owners. The Delhi Police has also written to the Delhi Government's Labour department to inspect the pool site.

"The police on Sunday was informed around 8:10 pm about two persons drowning in a pool located near a school. The caller also added that the two men had consumed liquor. The deceased have been identified as Amit (24) and Neeraj (23). Amit worked as a mechanic while Neeraj was a student of DU's SOL (School of Open Learning)," said Harendra Kumar Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, North.

Investigating officials said that when the pool site was examined it came to fore that no safety measures were available at the swimming pool. Based on the findings a case under section 304A (Causing death by negligence) was registered at Burari police station.

Owner of the pool was identified as Vikram Ujjainwal, who had given the pool on lease to another man identified as Mangesh Tyagi.

"The caretaker of the pool, Ramesh, and Ujjainwal were apprehended by the police. A letter has been sent to Department of Labour, GNCTD for inspection of the swimming pool," said Singh.

The pool owner did not have a valid government license for operating the pool as it was in the final stage of completion.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination and the police are waiting for the autopsy report before investigating further.
