Two held for possessing heroin worth Rs 12 crore

Delhi Police's special cell has arrested two men who used to procure large consignments of crude heroin from Naxal affected areas of Jharkhand and West Bengal and then prepare pure heroin at their hideouts. The drugs were then supplied to the duo's contacts in Saharanpur, Haridwar and Delhi NCR to be transported further. Three kilogram of heroin has been recovered from them worth Rs 12 crore.

The two men were identified as Asiq Ali (36) from Bareilly and Savej (20) from Saharanpur. Three kilograms of high grade heroin worth more than Rs 12 crores in the international market and several mobile handsets and SIM cards used in the drug trafficking activities have also been recovered from their possession.

"It was on January 10 when a team from the special cell received specific information that a key member of a known narcotics cartel namely Savej would come to Anand Vihar Bus Depot in east Delhi to supply huge consignment of drug to one of Delhi based drug dealer. Accordingly, a trap was laid at the spot and Savej was apprehended from Anand Vihar bus depot. A detailed search led to recovery of two kilogram heroin," Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP special cell.

Savej revealed that his aide Asiq Ali and Riyaz are still in possession of large quantity of heroin and he provided specific leads about their whereabouts in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. On this, a team was immediately rushed to Bareilly and following a raid, Asiq Ali was apprehended. One kilogram of heroin along with mobile sets and Sim cards used in drug trafficking were recovered from him, Yadav said.

During interrogation Ali disclosed that he had been working for one Riyaz for last seven years. "He said that he procured supply of heroin from Riyaz and Farid and further supplied the same to their drug traffickers as per their directions. During interrogation of both accused persons it has also been revealed that Riyaz and Farid procured large consignment of crude heroin from Naxal affected areas of Jharkhand and West Bengal. After getting crude heroin from their suppliers of Jharkhand and West Bengal, they used to prepare pure heroin at their hideouts," the DCP said.
