Two criminals were arrested after an encounter on Tuesday morning with the Gautam Budh Nagar Police. The accused had on April 3 attacked an Ola driver on Noida Expressway with a knife and later dumped him on the Expressway. The accused had then fled away with his car. Police said that the two criminals are undergoing treatment while the two other accused managed to flee the spot.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Rahul and Kunal, who had attacked a cab driver in order to rob his vehicle. They were arrested following a brief encounter. The incident took place at around 5 am.

"We had received information that the looted cab was heading towards Dadri area, so we had placed checking near the toll plaza," said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer (Dadri).

On spotting the cab, the police asked the driver to stop the car, following which the accused fired at the police party and tried to flee the checking area.

"After chasing them for a while, they left the car and started running in different directions. Two of the four accused received bullet injuries while the other two managed to flee the spot taking advantage of the darkness," said Sharma.

The two injured were rushed to the nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Later, they attacked the cab driver with a pointed object and threw him in the bushes at a deserted area on the expressway, and fled with the cab. A case under relevant section was registered at sector 39 police station of Gautam Budh Nagar.

The two have been arrested under sections 307(attempt to murder), 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 411(Dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code and 25/27 section of the Arms Act.
