Even as the special task force (STF) is targetting major markets for encroachment-removal drive, traders associations of Connaught Place and other areas in Lutyen's Delhi met the chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in order to seek clarity on the issue.

Traders in Khan Market, too, said they had planned to meet NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar over the issue, however, the meeting was postponed for Friday.

"There is no encroachment in Khan Market. We have our shops here from the last 68 years. However, some issues were raised by the monitoring committee for which we need to seek clarity. We have sought time from the chairman this week for the same," said Rajan Ahuja, a trader, who owns a sunglasses store in the market.

The STF, which was created on directions of the Supreme Court, is now officially working under the SC-mandated Monitoring Committee tasked with sealing premises not in conformity with the Delhi Master Plan -2021.

Meanwhile, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) continued with the anti-encrochment drive on Thursday towing away 71 vehicles across the city and removing 175 permanent structures.

"Area of 45-feet from Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road up to Vasant Kunj was freed of encroachment from tin sheds and shacks. Also, eight properties were sealed in Ghitorni while five temporary taxi stands were demolished," said a senior officer.

Also, in New Friends Colony, five properties were sealed at 22 points for misuse of stilt parking area.

"During the drive in Najafgarh zone, area of about 3000 sq feet encroached government land was vacated," the officer said.

In North Delhi, the civic body seized 8 vehicles from the surrounding area of MCD headquarters at Civic Centre at Minto Road. "In order to prevent encroachers from resurfacing again on pavements such as mobile food vans, we sealed the vehicles and asked the owners to take the vehicles away," the officer said.

In East Delhi, the building department sealed silt portions of six properties on account of "misuse".

The task force headed by DDA vice-chairman Uday Pratap Singh comprises of all civic agencies including three municipal corporations, public works department (PWD), and DDA, among others.

The civic agencies have to file a compliance report in the SC on the matter on May 15.
