Tightening the noose around private schools, the Delhi government is all set to launch a separate grievance web portal for education-related problems. The move by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government comes ahead of nursery admissions, slated to begin in the second half of December.
Sources in the government said the portal will especially monitor complaints against private schools, regarding nursery admissions, fee hike and donations. The portal is expected to be launched on Tuesday, by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
The Delhi government has taken a strict stand against those private schools that violate the Delhi School Education (DSE) Act and the Right To Education (RTE) Act. Apart from taking action in cases of unreasonable fee hike, the government even decided to take over two of the branches of a private, unaided school for violating the RTE rules, in August this year.
Meanwhile, the parents associations have welcomed the government move, stating that the continuous monitoring of complaints will help the government deal with parents’ grievances better.
“If the government is launching a portal like this, it will be really helpful for the parents. If the monitoring is centralised, the government will get to know the real issues that parents face during nursery admissions,” said Khagesh B Jha, coordinator of the All-India Parents Association.
The schools, on the other hand, have demanded that the complaints be handled on a case-to-case basis, to ensure that school managements don’t have to bear the brunt of unnecessary complaints.
“The government should check the authenticity of every complaint. Some parents register unnecessary complaints about schools. That should not happen. There should not be any misuse of the portal. The government should look after the grievances of the schools as well,” said RC Jain of the Delhi State Public School Management Association.
