Shooter operating on instructions of jailed gangster, nabbed

Solanki and Mahal, who are presently in jail, were running an organised crime syndicate in the area, says Police

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested a shooter who belongs to the Pradeep Solanki gang, and was also a close aide of infamous gangster Manjeet Mahal. Police said that Solanki and Mahal, who are presently in jail, were running an organised crime syndicate in the area.

The accused has been identified as Paramjeet alias Vikas, 34, a resident of Mohan Garden area in Uttam Nagar. One sophisticated pistol of .32 bore loaded with three live cartridges was also recovered from his possession. The shooter was wanted in cases including attempt to murder and extortion in areas of west and southwest Delhi from various builders and property dealers, police said.

Senior officers said that the gang was extorted various builders and property dealers and often used shooters to open fire at their offices to terrorise them. This was done on the instructions of gang leader, Pradeep Solanki, who is languishing in jail. Solanki was a close aide of Manjit Mahal and both have been booked under the MCOC Act by the Delhi Crime Branch.

"A tip-off revealed that Vikas will arrive near Rama Park Road in Uttam Nagar on Thursday evening. A trap was laid and he was arrested. On interrogation, the accused told police that on Thursday, he was going to threaten some builders in the area by opening fire at their offices under the aegis of gang leader Pradeep Solanki," said DCP crime, Bhisham Singh. The duo are presently in jail on charges of murder, attempt to murder, and extortion.

It was in 2009-10, that Vikas came into contact of Solanki. The gang was indulging in land grabbing of disputed plots and extortion from various builders and property dealers in the area.
