The Union government has appointed senior IAS officer MM Kutty as the Chief Secretary of Delhi on Tuesday. Kutty will be replacing incumbent K K Sharma, who was transferred as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

A 1985-batch IAS officer, Kutty was sent back to his parent Union Territories cadre before completing the tenure of his Central deputation. He had been working as the Additional Secretary in the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest.

"The competent authority has approved premature repatriation of 1985-batch IAS officer Kutty to his cadre," stated an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training. Kutty was chosen from a list of five senior bureaucrats shortlisted for appointment as Delhi Chief Secretary. He has also been the Principal Secretary to the then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, and Finance Secretary in the present Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
