The other men revealed that Nadeem decided to kill the deceased with the help of his friends
A man was so upset about returning a loan that he decided to commit murder rather than return the money. The bizarre state of affairs came to the police's notice when they interrogated one Nadeem who decided to kill his friend Akhtar Abbas, rather than return the Rs 5 lakh he owed him.
During the early hours on Thursday, a night patrolling police team intercepted a two-wheeler on which two men were carrying a bulky package. On being stopped, the vehicle initially slowed down but then sped away leaving behind a bag that was carrying a carcass. The cops tracked down the vehicle and zeroed in on the accused in the crime.
On interrogation, the accused revealed the names of others involved in the crime. They were identified as Shareef alias Pravej (29), Khalid (41) and Sobi Khan alias Raja (20). However, the two masterminds behind the murder, Nadeem and Gulfam, are still absconding, police said.
During interrogation, the other men revealed that Nadeem decided to kill the deceased with the help of his friends.
"The deceased, Abbas was shot in the head and molten plastic poured on his head to stop the bleeding," said DCP (Northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla
Singla said that it was Sub Inspector Dinesh Kumar and Head Constable Ashok who had spotted the two-wheeler on Thursday and tried to stop it.
"This was when the bag fell from their scooter but the riders sped away towards Gautampuri. On checking the bag, police found the dead body of a man wrapped in plastic. The body was partially burnt with both its legs tied together with a cord," Singla said.
Following technical surveillance, the police then traced the two-wheeler with the help of its registration number and the owner was identified as one Mohammad Khalid, the elder brother of one Nadeem, who was later identified to be the mastermind of the case.
"During investigation, it was revealed that construction work was going on at the sites owned by Nadeem. One of these sites in Jafrabad was checked and at the first floor, blood stains and burnt material were found.
"It was also revealed that one Sharif alias Pravej from Gautampuri and Sobi Khan alias Raja, used to work for Nadeem. Meanwhile the deceased was identified as Akhtar Abbas who dealt in properties," the DCP said.
Abbas had been demanding money from Nadeem, leading to various arguments between them, following which Nadeem conspired to eliminate him with the help of his associates.
"Late night on Wednesday they called Abbas from his residence and consumed liquor at the site in Jafrabad. Nadeem then shot Abbas in his head and then poured melted material on the head of the deceased to control the bleeding. They then tried to burn the body to conceal its identity," the DCP said
