In a classic reel-to-real case, a businessman allegedly faked poverty for his elder son’s admission in a posh Delhi, just like Irrfan Khan-starrer Hindi Medium.

However, instead of a heart-warming end, this story saw the accused being arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Gaurav Goel, who was arrested on the complaint filed by Sanskriti School.

"The man made false EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) certificate, residence proof and I-T return documents among others," DCP Madhur Verma, New Delhi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The case dates back to 2013, when Goel allegedly forged documents to get his elder son admitted to the posh school. However, even after the arrest, Goel maintained that his documents were not found fake and that he was in EWS category five years ago.
At the time of school admission of his elder son, Goel told the authorities that he was living in slums at Sanjay Camp and claimed that his annual earning was Rs 67,000 only.

On the basis of the documents and the salary declaration, Sanskriti School gave admission to Goel’s elder son. For four years, the boy attended the school without paying a single rupee.

It was the admission of his younger son that blew Goel’s cover. This time, he told the school to change the residential address to Safdarjung Enclave, a tony locality in the national capital.

It was then that school started re-verifying the facts that it came to light the Goel was running the very MRI centre for which he claimed he was just an ordinary worker.

The family has a very successful business in pulses and Goel has travelled more than 20 countries, a Times of India report said.

The police are trying to find out if any government employ helped the businessman in forging the documents.

The incident resonates the plot of Bollywood movie ‘Hindi Medium’ wherein the lead actor Irrfan Khan faked his economic condition to get his son admitted at a renowned school.
