A group of women from a village at Rewari in Rajasthan had come to the rally to have their demand for acute water shortage heard. Sharmila, 49, heading the team, said, "It has been two years since the water supply has been just a few drops through the day. There is acute water shortage and every government promises us the same. The elections are next year and we really hope to see a change."

Earlier they would get some erratic supply, but the women pointed out that in the past two years, the situation has worsened. "We have a tank in which the water was released by the government, which stopped last year. Now, we have to fetch water from at least 2-2.5 kms away," she said.

It is the same for electricity. The village gets power supply only during one half of a day.

"We have to complete all our chores in that brief two-three hours that we get electricity. Rest of the day goes like that. We make our children study during that time. While we can still manage without power, it is not possible to do without water. I hope Rahul Ji (Congress president) visits our village sometime soon. No BJP workers have visited us so far," Sharmila said.
