Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar, convener of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, (MRM) attended an Iftar party organised by the MRM at Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar reached out to the Muslim community and stated. "It is really sad to see that even after 70 years of Independence the localities of our Muslim brethren are called 'mini-Pakistan.' I request my Muslim friends not to react to such things and let people know that you are no less Indians."

Kumar also appealed the Muslim community to say no to "triple talaq" and said that by doing so they would safeguard the rights of Muslim women and win goodwill among Indians at large.

The invitation to the RSS leader was opposed by a large group of Jamia students who held mass protests outside the venue. Holding black flags and shouting slogans, the agitating students said, "How can our University allow a communal person like him to organise Iftar party at its premises," asked Imran Chaudhary, a Jamia student.

Heavy security had to be deployed to keep the protestors in order. "RSS is trying to saffronise educational institutions across the country. We won't let them do the same in our University," Chaudhary added.

Reacting to the protesters, Kumar called the protesting students "politically motivated" and said, "Today we must pray to God to show a right path to those children who have lost their ways and indulge in wrong deeds. They are being misled by a certain section of politically motivated students."
