The body of a 24-year-old pregnant woman, who had gone missing from her home in Greater Noida on Sunday night, was found stuffed into a suitcase in a drain in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad on Tuesday.

Mala's family has accused her husband and his family of murdering her for not fulfilling dowry demands. Police has registered an FIR against five people, all of whom are absconding.

Mala married Shivam, a salesman in DLF mall, out of love in November 2017. The two had met through Facebook. They lived in Bisrakh and Mala would give tuitions at home. Her family had filed a missing persons compliant at Bisrakh police station.

"We had received information that a woman's body has found in Kanwani area," said Dharmendra Chauhan, Deputy Superintendent of police.

"We found that the body had been strangulated and stuffed into the suitcase, with her hands and legs tied. Police stations of nearby districts were informed in order to trace her identity."

As the information spread, Mala's family members reached Indirapuram police station and identified the body with the help of her anklet. The corpse was then sent for post-mortem.

Family members informed the cops that she was pregnant. "We have registered a case under section 304B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code against the husband, his two brothers and his parents," said Akhilesh Tripathi, Station House Officer of Bisrakh Police station.
