Leader of Opposition, Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta criticised the Delhi government for "baseless allegations" against the BJP on alleged deletion of around 30 lakh voters in the city. In a press conference held on Wednesday, he claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was forced to resort to fictitious stories fearing defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019.

Addressing the media persons, Gupta also questioned the special Assembly session called by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on 27th November. "Why did the party or the CM not raise the issue of deleted voters during the session?" he asked, informing that "around 13,73,300 names between 2015 to 2018 have been added to the voter list".

"Around 5 lakh voters belonging to Vaish community have been added to the voter list," he further said.

Gupta also demanded action against Delhi election minister Imran Hussain who had supervised the surveys conducted by the Delhi Election Commission to prepare voter list. "If the AAP really thinks there has been some mischief in voters' list, it should have taken strict action against those involved but no such step was taken, exposing that the party wants to use caste and religion politically," the Rohini MLA said.

In a bid to drive home his point that the party has not deleted any voters from the list, the BJP leader also cited data from seats like Burari, Patparganj that majorly has a Poorvanchal vote bank. Gupta claimed that more than 43430 votes in Burari and over 21780 votes in Patparganj have been added in the voter list. "I am surprised that none of the MLAs from these constituencies raised doubts in the Special Assembly session. The truth is that the AAP government has failed on all fronts. Hence they are creating an atmosphere of hatred among the people," he said.
