One dead, seven injured as Volvo bus rams into DTC bus in Noida Sector 21A

A 23-year-old man died while seven others were injured after a collision took place between a Volvo bus and a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) at the intersection of Sector 21A in Noida on Sunday morning. The police have arrested the Volvo driver for rash driving and jumping the signal.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ashutosh, a native of Pali village, who was travelling in the Volvo bus.

"The Volvo bus carrying around 50 passengers of a private travel company was on the way from Farukkhabad to Loni. It was overspeeding and rammed into a DTC bus at Sector 21A intersection which was heading in the opposite direction around 7 am," said Manish Saxena, station house officer of Sector 20 police station.

The entire front portion of the Volvo was damaged while Ashutosh who was sitting next to the driver was fatally wounded. While seven others were also injured.

"The two injured were rushed to Prakash Hospital while five were taken to the district hospital. Ashutosh was declared brought dead on arrival," Saxena said.

According to officials at Prakash Hospital, two patients were brought there. One of them has been discharged while the other has been kept under observation. While the officials of the district hospital said that five people were brought to the hospital and Ashutosh was brought dead and the four are being treated.

" During initial interrogation, it was revealed that the Volvo driver was overspeeding and had jumped the signal resulting in the accident," said a senior police officer.

The Volvo driver has been identified as Laxman who has been arrested under sections 279 (rash driving ) and 304A (death due to negligence ) of the Indian Penal Code.

The locals have alleged that the traffic signal at the intersection is often not functioning.

"Due to the dysfunctioning of the traffic signal, we have witnessed a lot of accidents at this intersection and interestingly there are no traffic inspectors at the intersection. We request the concerned officer to deploy a constable and also make sure that the lights at the signal function," said Amit Mehta, a local.
