The main accused in the murder of Haryana folk singer Harshita Dahiya in October 2017, Dinesh Karala, was fired upon inside the Tis Hazari court complex in North Delhi on Tuesday morning.

A suspected juvenile was apprehended for allegedly firing a bullet at an undertrial Karala. The police said that he has sustained a bullet injury on his left elbow. The juvenile is a member of a rival gang, who wanted to eliminate him. Karala is a member of the Jitender Gogi gang. He was being taken to a jail van parked in the court complex.

"The incident took place around 12 pm when Karala was about to reach the parking area near gate no. 2 when a youth approached him and fired upon him with a country-made pistol. He sustained bullet injury on his left elbow and collapsed on the ground while the accused fled the spot, " said Jatin Narwal, Deputy commissioner of police (North).

The police said that the accused was identified as a member of Sunil Tillu gang and was assigned the task to eliminate Karala by one Amit Dabang, an active member of the gang.

"Karala was produced in front of the court from Rohtak jail by the Haryana police. He was rushed to a hospital and is under treatment," said Narwal.

"A team of special cell that was present inside the court, chased and nabbed a juvenile, a resident of Rohtak in Haryana. The pistol used by the accused was also recovered from him," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP (special cell).

During the interrogation, the juvenile revealed that he was also involved in the murder of Monu Nepali, another associate of Gogi and the shoot-out was the fallout of an old rivalry between Gogi Gang and Tillu gang.
