The Ghaziabad police on Monday started questioning the locals to investigate the murder of a four-year-old boy, whose body was found stuffed inside a wooden box on a neighbour's terrace on Sunday. However, they are yet to make a headway in the case.

The police said that they have questioned many people including locals and close relatives of the deceased, while the victim's family suspect the involvement of a close relative in the incident and demand death penalty for the accused.

The police have also questioned the two accused who are out on bail. They were arrested after they made fake ransom calls to the family taking advantage of the situation.

"We have picked up dozens of suspects and questioned them, but no concrete lead has been found so far. We have also formed teams to investigate the matter covering all the possible leads in the past about the accused, but nothing conclusive has been achieved yet," said a senior police officer.

The partially decomposed body of four-year-old Mohammad Zaid, who was allegedly abducted 18 months ago, was found on Sunday on the rooftop of a room adjacent to his house in Sahibabad's Shamshad Garden area.

Zaid went missing on December 1, 2016 while he was playing outside his house wearing his school uniform. Zaid's body was spotted by his elder brother when he went to the terrace to pick up the ball and peeped inside the box and found the body. After which, he raised an alarm and then the owner of the house informed the police.

The incident left the family members of the deceased distressed as they were still suspecting him to be alive and were making every possible effort to find him, even 18 months after his missing.
