The missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed may have been traced by Delhi Police in Bihar's Darbhanga district, top Delhi police sources have confirmed.

According to sources in the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's office, Ahmed was seen visiting Dargahs in Bihar's Darbhanga. "The Special Investigation Team of the Delhi police have been dispatched to Darbhanga after we received strong leads suggesting Ahmed being sighted in one of the Dargahs in Bihar," said sources at Jung's office. Sources, however, added the LG's office still waiting for confirmation from the teams sent to Bihar.

Meanwhile, Ahmed's mother had earlier during the day met the LG, wherein the LG had ensured full support to the family. "LG sahab assured us that police is trying their best to trace my son. Now they are saying that he has been spotted somewhere in Darbangah. I request the Delhi police if they have already know where he is, bring him back to us. I won't trust them as long as I'll see him with my own eyes," Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees said.

Ahmed, a 27-year-old first year MSc student, had gone missing on October 15 from his hostel. His recovered wallet and mobile phone lead to speculations of some foul play behind his disappearance. His disappearance had sent Delhi Police going on a wild goose chase. Political parties had also tried to take mileage from the issue, with several top leaders alleging the hand of right wing parties behind his disappearance.

The case had also resulted in massive protests from Ahmed's fellow students, who had blamed the Delhi police of slow investigation. The Delhi police had also put a reward of R1 lakh on any information given about Ahmed, the reward money was later increased by LG to R2 lakh.
