Vice President Venkaiah Naidu was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS) on Saturday, after a successful angioplasty to remove a blockage in one of the main arteries.

Naidu, 68, was admitted to AIIMS at around 8 am to the Cardio-Neuro Centre on Friday because of a spike in his blood pressure and sugar levels, which was followed up by an angiography which confirmed blockage.

The vice president was then operated on and a stent was placed to treat the condition. The procedure was handled under the supervision of renowned Professor of the Department of Cardiology, Dr Balram Bhargava.

Doctors at AIIMS confirmed that all of the parameters of the vice president are normal.

He has been advised complete rest for the next three days and to not have any visitors during this period.

Earlier, Naidu had visited the hospital for a “complete body checkup” after being elected as the vice president in August. The tests then had pointed to some problems related to the heart.
