The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Malliwal on Thursday alleged that a woman, who went along with the police to bust an illicit liquor racket in outer Delhi's Narela, was allegedly assaulted, and her clothes torn by other women of the locality who apparently were involved in bootlegging.
Maliwal alleged that the woman was attacked by a mob of over 25 people and was assaulted with iron rods. "Her clothes were torn and she was paraded naked in the area and the entire incident was filmed and the video was allegedly shared in the area by these criminals," she said.
"The entire incident proves complete lawlessness and zero fear of law in the area and it is shocking that police did not take any action to protect these women," Malliwal added.
"Utterly shocking and shameful that this is happening in the capital of India. I urge Hon'ble LG to immediately intervene," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
