A 20-year-old youth has been accused of allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in the Dankaur village on Tuesday.

As per the parents of the victim, the accused Harendra Singh is their neighbour and well-known to them. On June 10, when the girl was playing outside her house in the afternoon, Singh dragged her and took her away to a deserted place and allegedly raped her.

"The parents of the girl approached us and alleged that on Sunday, the accused dragged the girl to a deserted place and raped her. The girl's parents were alerted when she started shouting for help and attracted the attention of the villagers. However, the accused managed to flee from the spot. She then narrated the incident to her parents," said the station house officer (SHO) of Dankaur police station.

The girl is a student at a private school, while Singh is unemployed. She has been sent for a medical examination to ascertain the claims of sexual assault.

"Based on the complaint, we have filed a case of rape under the Indian Penal Code Section 376 and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act. The accused has not returned to the village yet and all efforts are being made to apprehend him," the SHO said.
