The Municipal Corporations of Delhi now plan to generate revenue by allowing film producers to shoot on their premises and in heritage areas in the walled city.

The move has come from the cash-strapped North and East Corporations under the Delhi government's Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation(DTTDC) proposal for 'single window mechanism for film shootings in Delhi'.

The two civic bodies are all set to rent out its prime locations for film shoots. The locations include the Civic Centre (North Corporation's headquarters), iconic buildings in the walled city such as the Town Hall, Lahori Museum, Roshanara Bagh and Kudsia Bagh, among others.

"The 28-storeyed Civic Centre is the tallest building in Delhi. It is even 30 metres above the Qutub Minar. We plan to give its helipad for film shoots, as it would allow them a view of the entire city. Also, some of the auditoriums and meeting rooms here could be good options to shoot," said, a senior official.

Besides in East Delhi, Shahdara Lake, once developed as a tourist spot will be an ideal location for film shoots. "We will have a meeting with the line producers and officials of Information and Broadcasting ministry officials who facilitate foreign producers soon. However, the policy and rates will be finalised by the new elected body," said North Corporation Commissioner P K Gupta.

The civic bodies unlike other government departments were not charging a fee for shooting in public places. However, they came up with the idea to decide on new locations and to charge a fee for the same in a bid to earn revenue and promote film tourism.
